Sump Pump Repair and Replacement
Sump pumps are meant to keep water out of your basement due to rain water and other irrigation. Anytime you dig a 9-foot hole in the ground, you’re inviting water to come in. The purpose of the sump pump is to simply collect that water in a reservoir and pump it back outside, away from the home. The only hazard that you can face with a sump pump is when the electricity goes out and the pump doesn’t work. The standard for years has been to have a battery back up for your pump. These work and are fairly cost effective. However, it does require you to check your battery back up every so often to make sure it’s working. You don’t want to find out it’s not working by having a flooded basement. Lately, there have been some changes in technology. A new type of backup, called a water powered sump pum, is now on the market. Watch the video below to see how these work.

These devices are fairly new to the market, so there hasn’t been a lot of feedback either way on how they are working. Our most logical concern would be if the valve got stuck open. A city water bill would be astronomical! However, we haven’t heard of anything like that happening.
So there’s pros and cons to both. One thing is for sure, either way, it’s a great idea to have a back up plan.
